Eight layers (11-18) each have eight waveguides (20). Each layer has a plate-shaped substrate fitted with waveguides and covered with a coating that encapsulates each waveguide. Each layer of waveguides has single input areas (31-38) forming extensions on corresponding substrates. A stack of extensions (41-48) for waveguide layers forms each output area. An Independent claim is also included for a component subassembly with a plug-in connector fitted with optical waveguides.
