A method for controlling a treatment system that comprises a multiplicity of instruments and at least one control unit (110), whereby the instruments can be interchanged or used in parallel as controlled by the control unit. Operational or condition data can be exchanged in a bi-directional manner via a bus connecting instruments and control unit or between instruments. At least a part of the data is stored in one of the instruments. The invention also relates to a corresponding instrument and a treatment system for implementation of the inventive method.
