A method of producing a cross-linked collagenous biomaterial includes the step of providing a collagenous biomaterial and irradiating the collagenous biomaterial with gamma radiation at a dose of between about 20 and 160kGy to produce the cross-linked collagenous biomaterial. The collagenous biomaterial is provided in the form of a gel and is produced by extracting bone powder or tendon.
