<p>2-(S)-amino-4-phenylbutyric acid is efficiently prepared in a high yield by (a) dehydrating L-aspartic acid to obtain an aspartic anhydride; (b) reacting the aspartic anhydride with benzene in the presence of a Lewis acid and then with a strong acid to obtain a salt of 2-(S)-amino-4-oxo-4-phenylbutyric acid; and (c) reducing the salt.</p> |
