A device for trunk wood examination comprises a metal detector (13) with a transmitter (3) and a receiver (5a, 5b) for receipt of test waves that have traveled through the trunk wood and a signal processing unit (7) that uses the received waves to determine the position of metallic foreign bodies in the trunk wood (1). The whole device is mounted on a motor vehicle (9) for transport of trunk wood.
