This invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising an effecti ve amount of (-)-Secoisolariciresinol together with or associated with an additive useful as an antioxidant; a process for isolating the (-)- Secoisolariciresinol from the pant Stereospermum Personatum and also relates to use of the active fraction (-)-Secoisolariciresinol as an antioxidant or free radical scavenger.
