PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the generation of operation trouble in a simultaneous biaxial stretching apparatus. SOLUTION: The film stretching apparatus is constituted so that the and parts of a running film (f) are clamped by a plurality of clips 14 and the film (f) is pulled in its surface direction by these clips 14 to be stretched. This film stretching apparatus has link mechanisms 17 and 21 capable of displacing the clips 14 in order to stretch the film (f), a drive means 15 for running the link mechanisms 17 and 21 and the clips 14 corresponding to the running of the film (f), guide means 18 and 24 for guiding the running of the link mechanisms 17 and 21 in order to stretch the film (f) in such a state that the link mechanisms 17 and 21 are allowed to have relations with each other and a deviation detection means 40 for detecting the deviation of the link mechanisms 17 and 21 from a position normal with respect to the guide means 18 and 24.
