PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device for a continuously variable transmission capable of generating a deceleration in the vehicle complying with the driver's will. SOLUTION: The returning speed of an accelerator pedal is calculated from a detected signal given by an accelerator sensor. When the pedal returning speed has become a value over the reference value for judgement, it is judged that the driver has a will to decelerate with the effect of engine brake, and setting is made to the gear ratio fixed mode, while if the pedal returning speed has become a value smaller than the reference value, judged that the driver has a will to make coasting, and the coast mode should be set. In the gear ratio fixed mode, the gear ratio is fixed to a gear ratio RF at the F point where the driver has restituted the accelerator pedal so that an engine brake to an appropriate degree is generated in the vehicle. In the coast mode, a transition is made from the gear ratio RF at the F point to the side with the over drive RO, and the vehicle is allowed to coast in the condition fixed to the overdrive RO. |
