PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously oxidize and remove fine particles deposited on a particulate filter. SOLUTION: A particulate filter 24 is arranged in an engine exhaust passage. A vehicle is equipped with an electric motor 37 which can give vehicle drive force separately from an internal combustion engine 1 further can generate electric power by the engine 1. After completion of warming up of the particulate filter 24, when its temperature is low generated, output torque of the engine 1 is increased, and an increase amount of the output torque is consumed by power generating action of the electric motor 37.
