PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an industrially advantageous method for safely producing a 1,2-benzoisothiazolin-3-one compound without using a harmful reagent in good yield. SOLUTION: This method for producing the 1,2-benzoisothiazolin-3-one compound represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<1> is a hydrogen atom, a 1-12C alkyl group, a 3-12C cycloalkyl group or a 6-12C aromatic group; R<2> is a 1-8C alkyl group, a 3-8C cycloalkyl group, a 1-8C alkoxy group, a halogen atom or a nitro group; when a plurality of R<2> s are present, each R<2> may be same or different; and n is 0 or an integer of 1-4) comprises reacting a thiosalicylamine compound represented by general formula (2) (wherein, R<1> , R<2> and n have the same meanings as the above) with a hydroxylamine compound represented by general formula (3) (wherein, R<3> is a sulfonic acid group, a 6-12C aromatic sulfonyl group or a 2-12C acyl group) or a sodium salt compound of an N-chlorosulfonamide represented by general formula (4) (wherein, R<4> is a 6-12C aromatic group).
