Thermal protection article made of low density reinforced material and process for its manufacture

A part made of reinforced, low density, ablative thermal protection material consists of a matrix (2) of an elastomer and a silicone resin, filled with organic or inorganic components and reinforced with lengths of ceramic, glass or organic material threads (3). The threads are arranged in the body of the matrix following a direction sensibly or orthogonal to at least one face of the part (1) and with one of their ends, at least flush with the face. Also claimed is the production method of sowing in the reinforcement after forming the matrix. Pref. the reinforcement thread is, impregnated with phenolic or epoxy resin and curved, regularly spaced or staggered.
