PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermally developable photosensitive material having excellent preservability, high maximum density, little fog, a good silver tone and a great latitude to variation in thermal development conditions, and to provide an image recording method therefor. SOLUTION: The thermally developable photosensitive material comprises an organic silver salt, a reducer, photosensitive silver halide and at least one of the compounds of formula (1) on a support. In the formula, R1 and R2 are each H or a substituent; X1 is -S-, -O- or -N(R3 )-; R3 is H or a substituent; (n) is an integer of 2-6; (m) is an integer of 1-3; X2 is a diffusion resistant group, a group which is attracted to silver halide or silyl; (q) is an integer of 1-3; and L is a di- to hexavalent linking group.
