PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a frequency of a periodic inspection such as charging by using a compact battery. SOLUTION: This remote monitoring device is provided with the battery 7, an opening-closing detecting switch 2 for operating according to opening- closing of a manhole cover H1, a power supply unit 4 for starting power source supply from the battery 7 by operation of the opening-closing detecting switch 2, and stopping the power source supply by receiving a power supply stopping signal, a controller 5 for starting operation by the power source supply by the power supply unit 4, and outputting transmission data including information capable of specifying a manhole H, and a communication unit 6 having a transmission circuit for starting operation by the power source supply by the power supply unit 4, and transmitting the transmission data from the controller 5 to a management center MC via an antenna 3, and a receiving circuit for receiving the power supply stopping signal from the management center MC via the antenna 3, and transmitting the power supply stopping signal to a power supply circuit 4.
