PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a block copolymer comprisingα-methylstyrene polymer block and a conjugated diene polymer block. SOLUTION: The method is characterized in thatα-methylstyrene in a concentration of 5-50 mass% is polymerized at -30 to 30 deg.C in the presence of a polar compound in a concentration of 0.1-10 mass% with an organolithium compound in a nonpolar solvent as an initiator, the resulting polymer block A is polymerized with a conjugated diene of 1-100 mol equivalent based on a living polyα-methylstyllithium to obtain a polymer block B1, further the conjugated diene is polymerized at a temperature higher than 30 deg.C to obtain a polymer block B2 and, if necessary, a polyfunctional coupling agent is reacted to be hydrogenated.
