PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high quality OCB mode liquid crystal display device free from display unevenness. SOLUTION: The OCB mode liquid crystal display device comprising an array board and a counter board, and a liquid crystal layer held between the array board and the counter board is provided with a current detection means on the array board side or the counter board side. Moreover, the driving method for driving this liquid crystal display device according to this invention is a method letting the current detection means detect a current at the time when a transfer voltage pulse for transferring the liquid crystal layer into bend alignment is applied, and applying an ion diffusion voltage pulse in accordance with the current value to eliminate the display unevenness.
