PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system of simple constitution for a projector which is a non-telecentric type using no prism and uses DMD capable of so- called lens shifting and to provide an optical system for a projector which is adaptive to DMD differing in the tilt angle of a micromirror. SOLUTION: In the optical system for the projector, the light from a light source is guided to the DMD by a 1st condenser lens, a 2nd condenser lens and the light is reflected by the DMD to perform optical modulation, and the modulated light is projected on a projection lens. The projection lens is moved in parallel to the optical axis to shift a projection position and the 1st condenser lens is made eccentric with the reference optical axis as the projection lens moves to vary the angle of illuminating incidence on the DMD.
