PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection equipment, and an inspection method employing it, in which the outer surface or the inner state of a transparent body, e.g. a lens for eye, can be recognized readily and the surface condition of a lens, chipping at the peripheral part thereof, mixing of a bubble or a foreign matter into a lens material, and the like, can be inspected readily with high accuracy. SOLUTION: Side face of a lens holding means 4 formed of electrically conductive white translucent silicon rubber into a hollow tubular plunger shape is irradiated with inspection light from an inspection light source 2. Direct inspection light from the inspection light source 2 to a contact lens 14 held by the lens holding means 4 is intercepted by an inspection light regulating means 6 and the contact lens is irradiated only with the light transmitted the lens holding means 4. Inspection light transmitted the contact lens 14 is picked up using a CCS camera 8 and an image thus obtained is processed by means of a visual sensor 10.
