PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inorganic fiber having high thermal resistance such as not melting at 1400 deg.C together with an excellent solubility in organism compared to a conventional material, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The inorganic fiber including SiO2 , MgO and manganese oxide as essential components and including an amorphous parts comprising these prescribed components in the structure, is obtained by heating and melting a starting material including SiO2 , MgO and manganese oxide as essential components, at 1700-2000 deg.C and then quenching the melt to fiberize.
