In a hybrid stream/block ciphering arrangement an information stream to be secured is divided into blocks and each block is processed a large number of times encrypting/transforming one (or a few) pseudo randomly selected bit(s) each time. The method presented can be used to encrypt and decrypt information at any encryption strength, in either stream or file format, and can be easily parallelised for efficient implementation in either hardware or software.
