PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader in which the deformation of an edge member covering the edge part of an original platen glass is suppressed. SOLUTION: In the image reader provided with a scanning part to output an image data expressing an optical image by photoelectric conversion, an optical system to input the optical image to the scanning part, a plate-shaped original platen glass 14 on whose panel face an object is placed and the edge member 16 covering the panel face side of the edge parts 17a-17d of the original platen glass 14 and consisting of a resin material, a fastening member 50 having a holding part 54 opposed to the edge member 16 by holding the edge part 17a of the original platen glass 14 and a base part 52 locked by the edge member 16 is provided.
