PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a lowering of performance of a sliding face of a seal device caused by the heat generation by forcibly supplying a cooling fluid (a quenching fluid) to the seal device. SOLUTION: This mechanical seal device is provided with a pumping ring arranged in a fluid chamber communicating with a fluid passage, and rotated integrally with a rotating shaft. The pumping ring has a pumping hole inclined outward from the inner fluid passage side, and supplies a cooling fluid to the seal device by this pumping.
