PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve element for a butterfly valve that can reduce unbalance torque at the medium opening of the valve without impairing the advantage of a swirling flow inducing means (a plate-like projecting part). SOLUTION: This valve element for the butterfly valve is rotatable around a valve stem in a valve casing. In this case, a curved part of projecting cross section is formed almost over the whole upper reaches main face on the orifice side, and the upper reaches main face on the orifice side has a larger surface area than the lower reaches main face.
