The motor vehicle tarpaulin hole reinforcing eye (10) has a neck flange projection (16) extending axially, with the peripheral edge (12) of the neck having a closed ring profile in which the neck projection end is integrated (15). The edge (21) of the hole in the web (20) is trapped between the returned flange projection (16) of the ring and an opposing surface (41) of the profile to resist puling out forces on the web material. The edge of the web can extend beyond the trapped area in the ring profile.
