<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive liquid crystal display device suitable for displaying a moving picture, and to provide a driving method therefor. SOLUTION: This invention relates to the liquid crystal display device comprising 1st and 2nd electrodes 6, 10 formed inside of two transparent substrates 5a, 5b each, and arranged in a matrix form orthogonally crossing each other, nonlinear elements 3 arranged at the points at which the 1st and 2nd electrodes cross each other to form the pixels, and of which one ends are connected at least with one of the 1st and 2nd electrodes, a voltage applying means 16 for applying voltage across the 1st and 2nd electrodes, and the nonlinear elements have such a characteristic as they present high resistance when an absolute voltage value applied across both ends is a predetermined threshold or lower, and present low resistance when the voltage exceeds the threshold value, and thereby brightness of the pixels can be kept constant even if stored charges are distributed by the capacitance accompanied by the nonlinear elements and the capacitance of the pixels due to the memory of a ferroelectric liquid crystal.</p> |
