<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a product of Vπand L (Vπ.L) where Vπis a driving voltage and L is the length of an electrode while a speed matching is established between microwaves that propagate the electrodes, and light beams that propagated in an optical waveguide. SOLUTION: An optical modulator 1A is provided with a substrate 2A composed of an electrooptical material which is provided with mutually opposing surface 2a, bottom surfaces 2b and 10, optical waveguides 6A and 6B formed on the surface 2a side of the substrate 2A, electrodes 3, 4 and 5 which are formed on the surface 2a of the substrate 2 and used to modulate light beams that propagate in the waveguides 6A and 6B and electrically conductive films 14A and 14B which are formed on the surface 10.</p> |
