A first flame region (1) is produced via the burner with a second flame region (2) encasing the first flame region. Both flame regions are supplied with a substoichiometric, i.e. excess fuel gas-oxygen mixture. The waste gas is passed into the boundary surface of the flame regions and air or oxygen is introduced around the burner through nozzles or an annular channel.
