PURPOSE: A resin for a coating paper, a composition containing the resin for a coating paper and a paper containing the composition are provided, to improve the smear fastness and the ink receptivity. CONSTITUTION: The resin is prepared by reacting polyamide, the product containing the free carboxyl group obtained by the reaction of alicyclic polycarboxylic acid and glycol, and/or an alicyclic polycarboxylic acid, and an alkylating agent, to obtain a resin; and reacting the obtained resin with a urea compound. Preferably the polyamide is selected from the group consisting of alkylenediamine, polyalkylene polyamine, alicyclic amine and hetero cyclic polyamine; the alicyclic polycarboxylic acid is selected from the group consisting of cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid, cyclohexenedicarboxylic acid and their anhydrides; and the alkylating agent is epihalohydrin.
