PURPOSE: A pivot mechanism for a vehicle wiper device is provided to reduce injury of the pedestrian caused due to the wiper device, by permitting the pivot shaft to escape downward by the axial impact upon occurrence of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. CONSTITUTION: A pivot mechanism(30) comprises a pivot housing(33) for indentation of a pivot shaft(31). The pivot housing includes an upper housing(34) having a plate member(34a) fixed to a vehicle body; and a lower housing(35) having a plate member(35a) for supporting the pivot shaft and which is superimposed with the plate member(35a) of the upper housing. The upper housing and the lower housing are coupled with each other by a clip(40) for securing the plate members(34a,35a). The clip is released, the lower housing is separated from the upper housing by the downward load being applied to the pivot shaft, and the pivot shaft escapes downward upon occurrence of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
