PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glow plug and a method for producing it in which a metallic lead part is simply attached to a ceramic heater and the attaching strength of the metallic lead part and the electric conduction can be assuredly ensured. SOLUTION: The glow plug 50 has a rod shape and the ceramic heater 1 in which a heating resistor 11 is embedded. In the ceramic heater 1, a heater terminal 12a for energizing the heating resistor 11 is exposed on an outer peripheral surface. A metallic terminal ring 14 electrically connected to the heater terminal is fastened and fitted to the heater terminal so as to cover the heater terminal. Then, on the surface of the terminal ring 14, the metallic lead part 17 is connected by an ultrasonic welding part.
