The quantity of a medium such as ink or varnish transferred from a screen roller of a printer to a roller in contact with the screen roller is controlled by changing the peripheral speed difference between the screen roller and roller. The peripheral speed difference is controlled in relation to the printer's printing speed so that the printed density of the medium remains constant.
