PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a press-working method and a press-working tool capable of working a grooved concave portion on the surface of a metal pipe material at an inexpensive cost and capable of dispensing with strength reduction of the grooved concave portion even if a thinner metal pipe material is used. SOLUTION: The press-working method is characterized in that the grooved concave portion is press-formed on the surface of a metal pipe material 30 and the grooved concave portion has a rod shape, forming a taper surface 15e on the tip end portion, and at the same time, the press-working toll 15 which forms a projection 15a to reach the taper surface by extending to the longitudinal direction in a side surface is actuated so as to cross the outer peripheral portion of the fixed metal pipe material, and by sliding the taper surface to the outer peripheral portion of the metal pipe material, the grooved concave portion is press-formed by pressing the projection.
