PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chair type massaging machine that redetects the height of the body portion of a person to be massaged during massaging operation. SOLUTION: This chair type massaging machine is provided with a massaging unit equipped with massaging fingers and a position detecting means which detects the height of the body portion of the person to be massaged with which the massaging fingers are brought into contact with respect to the back board of the massaging machine and vertically movably stationed in the back board and a control means which stores the height of the body portion of the person detected by means of the position detecting means and, at the same time, controls the massaging unit by referring to the stored height of the body portion. When the control means performs massaging operation by vertically moving the massaging unit in the back board after the position detecting means detects the height of the body portion of the person, the control means redetects the height of the body portion by means of the position detecting means when the massaging fingers approach a prescribed height range from the detected height of the body portion.
