PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and highly selectively produce 1-hexene from ethylene. SOLUTION: Use is made of a catalyst obtained by bringing a halogenated organic polymer and an alkyl metal compound into contact with a tripodal- neutral-ligand-coordinated chromium complex represented by ACrBn (wherein (n) is an integer of 1-3; A is a tripodal neutral polydentate ligand; Cr is a chromium atom; B is at least one member selected from the group consisting of hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, and a linear or branched alkyl).
