METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PURIFYING WATER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To markedly reduce the generation amount of surplus sludge during continuous high load operation and keep stable wastewater treatment performance for a long period in a fluidized bed method where carrier for purifying water by using microorganisms moves. SOLUTION: In this water purifying method, a mixture of granulated porous ceramics mainly comprising SiO2 and Al2 O3 and granulated carbon is used for a microorganism carrier, and the carrier in a fluidized state is brought into contact with water under supply of a gas containing oxygen, or without supply of the gas. In this water purifying apparatus, a water supply means for making water to be purified flow upward and an oxygen-containing gas supply means are installed in a fluidized bed treatment tower filled with the mixture of the granulated porous ceramics mainly comprising SiO2 and Al2 O3 and the granulated carbon as the carrier.
