PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a roll coater coating method which allows formation of thick coating film of uniform and flat mirror finish without coating irregularity on the substrate surface of the wood substrate, wood floor, etc., and is a match for a flow coater. SOLUTION: It is a feature of this roll coater coating method that multiple lines of slits are disposed in parallel with the rotating direction of a coating roll on the surface of coating rubber roll of a used roll coater. Usually, the rubber roll is designed in such a manner that the pitch of multiple lines of slits is 5-20 lines/cm, the width of slit is 0.5-2.0 mm, the depth of slit is 0.1-1.0 mm and the hardness of the rubber roll is 50-70 deg.. Preferably the shape of cross- section of the slit is V-shape. As the material of the rubber roll, for example, urethane rubber, butyl rubber and ethylene-propylene rubber, etc., are cited. As the substrate, the wood substrate is generally used.
