An electrical priming mechanism for selfpropelled missiles is divided into two units, one being housed within the missile and comprising a propellant primer 8, a warhead primer 15 and circuitry so designed that an alternating waveform signal induced in a coupling coil 4, when the missile is within the launching weapon, is rectified by rectifier 5 into positive half-waves which charge capacitor 6 and by rectifier 7 into negative half waves which actuate the propelland primer 8. The second unit, shown in block I and situated in the launching weapon, comprises an impulse generator 1 connected in parallel, via rectifier 22, to a resonant circuit comprising a capacitor 2 and coupling coil 3. On acceleration of the missile, switch 9 is closed and there occurs transfer of electrical energy from capacitor 6 to capacitor 10. This transfer is of short duration since the resonant circuit comprising the capacitors 6, 10 and inductance 11 is tuned for high frequency operation. Capacitor 10 discharges slowly via resistance 13 into capacitor 14, which can only fire the warhead primer 15 on reaching its full priming potential, the firing occurring on impact when nose halves 16, 17 are forced into contact. The priming mechanism includes components to prevent accidental ignition of the primers. For example, if the nose halves 16, 17 are in contact prior to firing, the capacitor 6 is short-circuited via these nose halves and rectifier 20. Provision is also made for external testing of the mechanism.
