PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wastewater treatment apparatus solving the point at issue of a conventional method for fixing a biocatalyst to the surface of an electrode, showing high denitrification efficiency and capable of also removing a solid component, and a wastewater treatment method using the same. SOLUTION: The water treatment apparatus having a porous biocatalyst bed incorporated therein is constituted by inserting an electrode comprising a reticulated or perforated plate-like conductive material in a biocatalyst bed formed by flocculating the biocatalyst formed on a liquid permeable support. In the water treatment method, water to be treated is passed through the porous biocatalyst bed while a DC current is passed through the electrode of the porous biocatalyst bed. It is preferable to provide the porous biocatalyst bed in a container of which the cross section is partitioned into a honeycomb-like form by partition walls. Oxygen generated from an anode is consumed by aerobic bacteria to form an oxygen-free atmosphere and denitrification can be performed efficiently by hydrogen generated from a cathode and floating fine particles can be removed at the same time.
|
