PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for treating wastewater whereby a finely particulate solid component suspended in wastewater is efficiently recovered in a granular state. SOLUTION: Wastewater containing a solid component suspended therein is supplied to the primary side of a plurality of coil-type filter elements 8 to catch the solid component. Thus caught solid component is separated by a pressurized gas supplied from the secondary side. An aqueous suspension containing the separated solid component is discharged into an aqueous suspension tank 17 and then dehydrated by a dehydration means 18. The resultant solid component is mixed with a solidifying agent and granulated by a mixing and granulating apparatus 19.
