PURPOSE: A method for a pre-paid data communication service in a mobile communication system is provided to conveniently use a pre-paid data service by notifying remaining service time in a short message. CONSTITUTION: If an MS(Mobile Station) requests for data service activation, an RNC(Radio Network Controller) requests for radio resource assignment for a data service, so that a Node B assigns radio resources to the MS(ST1-ST2). An SGSN(Serving GPRS Support Node) requests a GGSN(Gateway GPRS Support Node) to generate information related to the data service and the GGSN responses to the request(ST3). The SGSN requests an SCP(Service Control Point) for a PPS(Pre-Paid Service)(ST4). The SCP proceeds the PPS and requests an SMSC(Short Message Service Center) to send a short message(ST5-ST6). The SGSN accepts data service activation(ST7). The SMSC sends the short message to notify remaining amount, service time, and data amount to the MS(ST8). The SCP requests the SGSN to notify data service time and data amount, and the SGSN sends corresponding information to the SCP(ST9-ST10). The SMSC transmits a short message transmitted from the SCP or an SMCS(Short Message Creation Server) to the MS(ST11-12). The SCP requests the SGSN to notify data service time and data amount, and the SGSN sends corresponding information to the SCP(ST13-ST14). The SCP requests the SGSN for a call release so that the SGSN requests the GGSN to remove the information related to the data service and the GGSN responses to the request(ST15-ST16).
