PURPOSE: A pivot mechanism for a vehicle wiper device is provided to prevent the pivot shaft from escaping downward during the operation of the vehicle wiper. CONSTITUTION: A pivot mechanism(30) comprises a pivot housing(35) including an upper housing(36) having a plate member fixed to a vehicle body, and a lower housing(38) having a cylindrical member where a pivot shaft(32) is press fit. The lower housing is connected to the outer bottom surface of the upper housing in such a manner that the lower housing is separable from the upper housing. The lower housing has, at a bottom thereof, a stopper end(38b) for catching a head part(34) moving downward to permit the lower housing to move downward, by the pivot shaft. The lower housing is arranged to escape from the upper housing by the downward load being applied to the pivot shaft upon occurrence of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian.
