PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate necessity to request a profile or the like in an external terminal when transmitting image data corresponding to a request from the external terminal, and further to reproduce the image corresponding to the output characteristics of the external terminal even when the external terminal does not have a specified function for processing standardized image data or the like. SOLUTION: A plurality of image data S1 having characteristics corresponding to the output characteristics of the external terminal are stored in an image storage part 21 of an image server 2. When requesting transmission of image data, transmitting instruction information A is necessarily transmitted from the external terminal. On the basis of the transmitting instruction information A, a decision part 23 decides the output characteristics of the external terminal. On the basis of the decided result of the decision part 23, an image selecting part 24 selects image data Ss having characteristics corresponding to the output characteristics of the external terminal out of a plurality of image data S1 stored in the image storage part 21. The selected image data Ss are transmitted to the external terminal by a transmitting/receiving part 22.
