PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To activate arresters and surely protect devices against a thunder surge before a dielectric breakdown occurs in the devices. SOLUTION: A lightning system is provided with a plurality of devices and a transmission line Ln for transmitting a signal between the plurality of devices. A protecting circuit 3 for protecting the devices against the thunder surge is connected between the line Ln and the ground G2 in parallel. The protecting circuit 3 comprises a parallel connection of the discharge gap arresters AR1, AR2 and a serial connection parts 3a. The serial connection part 3a comprises a resistor element R1 and a bi-directional Zener diode ZD1 as a voltage- dependent element connected to each other in series. The resistor element R1 has a smaller resistance than the intrinsic resistance of the line Ln.
