PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine a syllable of a Chinese based on a small number of keyings to a limited number of keys such as a numeral key. SOLUTION: Initial consonants of syllables are classified into 9 consonant groups, a consonant group to which the initial consonant of an input-objective syllable belongs is specified by the first keying. Then, an input guidance is displayed in response to a kind of compound vowel of the input-objective syllable, and the syllable is determined by an operation according to the input guidance. The compound vowel classified into a compound vowel, a mouth-opening compound vowel (compound vowel started with a, e and o), a tooth-meshed compound vowel (started with i and y), a mouth-closed compound vowel (compound vowel started with u and w), and a mouth-pouted compound vowel (compound vowel started with v and yu), by a compound vowel classifying method of the present invention.
