PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data tracking system and method, which can correct and restore tracking data through easy operation and has high reliability. SOLUTION: A line controller 1 which recognizes the conveyance position of a work in a line and indicates and monitors the machining and assembly of the work and a plurality of facility controllers 2 having tracking data areas corresponding to stations in the line by facilities are connected; and the line controller 1 has a work correspondence table 1d wherein the kinds of works are made to correspond to ID codes allocated to the works to be conveyed in the line and machined and a work machining pattern database 1e which stores machining pattern information on machining processes for the works by the work kinds and at least one of the facility controller and line controller is equipped with tracking data correction input means 1b and 2b which can rewrite the tracking data.
