PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and a device for rewriting software of an inexpensive microcomputer built-in device without taking a lot of trouble. SOLUTION: When device control software 20 is modified, an update program 13 is converted into mail text in a character format for a portable telephone by conversion application software 14 under a server environment 2 of a service provider 1, and transmitted to a mail address of a portable telephone of a user purchased the device registered to a user database 9 via a mail server 6. When a connection is established between a device 10 and a portable telephone 12 via an interface means 19, the character format mail text 15 transmitted to the portable telephone 12 is converted reversely to the update program 13 by a rewrite control program module 18 and downloaded, and also the device control software 20 stored in a memory means 17 is rewritten by the update program 13.
