PURPOSE: A method, an apparatus, and a data structure capable of multiple channel data stream transmission are provided to insert data to be transmitted into portions of a plurality of transport streams nominally including null packets. CONSTITUTION: Each of at least one group of packets forming a bitstream is associated with a stream identifier and a respective sequence code(415). At least one group of the packets has at least one bitstream packet. Each of at least one group of the packets is transmitted via any one of a plurality of available transmission channels(435). The transmission channels nominally transmit NULL packets in the event of underutilization. At least one group of the packets is transmitted in place of the nominally transmitted NULL packets.
