APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING GRINDING OF OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a grinding of an optical fiber are provided to improve the quality of a cross-section of an optical fiber connecter by using a sensed current, an angular velocity to determine a replacement time of a sand paper. CONSTITUTION: A driving unit(200) rotates a grinding pad(100) provided with a sand paper for polishing a cross-section of an optical fiber. A sensor unit(300) is comprised of a rotation sensor(310) for detecting a rotational speed according to the driving of the grinding pad(100) and a current sensor(320) for sensing a current applied to the grinding pad(100). A control unit(400) receives the signal outputted from the sensor unit(300) and counts the generation frequency exceeding a maximum boundary current and a minimum boundary current due to a current ripple and a pulse generated by the change of the rotational speed, to thereby control the driving unit(200) by using a parameter of the current and the rotational speed.
