PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for taking up a magnetic tape, which can be used also for producing the magnetic tape or audio tape for data having width of 3.8 mm. SOLUTION: In the magnetic tape takeup device provided with takeup unit W for taking up a plurality of magnetic tapes of prescribed width cut into a thin band shape from a magnetic tape source roll, the takeup unit W is provided with a hub 5 for takeup for winding the magnetic tape and a head part 8 for guiding winding by feeding a magnetic tape 31 into the hub 5 for takeup, and regulating a winding state, the head part 8 is equipped with a touch roll 7 in contact with the outer most layer of the taken-up magnetic tape and a guide roll 6 provided on the upstream side of the touch roll 7, and at least the front surface of the touch roll 7 is composed of a rubber body having hardness of >=80 deg..
