METHOD AND DEVICE FOR SEARCHING FOR SIMILAR PROTEINS USING TWO-DIMENSIONAL GEL IMAGE

PURPOSE: A method and a device for searching for similar proteins using two-dimensional gel image are provided, therefore similar proteins can be easily ranked in order of similarity, and post-translational modification of proteins can be analyzed. CONSTITUTION: The device for searching for similar proteins using two-dimensional gel image comprises a first database storing a large quantity of the analyzed amino acid sequences of proteins; a second database storing data extracted from the first database; an interface which receives data about a certain protein developed in the two-dimensional gel image such as position, experimental isoelectric point, experimental molecular weight, and a ratio of isoelectric point to molecular weight; a ratio of isoelectric point to molecular weight-calculating portion which calculates the theoretical ratio of isoelectric point to molecular weight of a certain protein and storing the result in the second database; and a similar protein-searching portion which calculates experimental isoelectric point, experimental molecular weight, and the ratio of isoelectric point to molecular weight of a certain protein using position information, and searches similar proteins comparing with the stored data.
