PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control a compression rate of an image signal with a memory of a minimum capacity required for processing the image signal. SOLUTION: A coded data quantity monitor circuit 9 detects a data quantity of an image signal compressed by a JPEG compression circuit 7. When a CPU 10 determines that the data quantity detected by the coded data quantity monitor circuit 9 is a maximum coded data quantity S or over, first the CPU 10 allows an imaging device 3 to photograph again an object and output other image signal and changes a quantization table to be used by a quantization circuit 21. Then a DCT circuit 20 applies DCT processing to the other image data, the quantization circuit 21 quantizes the transformed data, and a coding circuit 22 encodes the quantized data to compress the other image data. Then a memory card 13 records the other compressed image signal. In this case, the other image signal is recorded to an area of the memory card 13 in which the image signal is recorded in advance. |
